The Mets entered this game riding a 4 game losing streak and coming off of a loss to the Giants. The Giants entered this game riding a 2 game win streak and coming off of a home run powered win over the Mets. If the Giants won this game they would secure a series win but if the Mets won they would tie the series. The Giants would attempt to win with LaMonte Wade Jr. (RF) hitting leadoff, Tommy La Stella (2B) hitting 2nd, Buster Posey (C) hitting 3rd, Brandon Belt (1B) hitting cleanup, Brandon Crawford (SS) hitting 5th, Evan Longoria (3B) hitting 6th, Mike Yastrzemski (CF) hitting 7th, Alex Dickerson (LF) hitting 8th, and last but definitely not least, Logan Webb (P) hitting 9th. The Mets lineup had Brandon Nimmo (CF) hitting leadoff, Pete Alonso (1B) hitting 2nd, Michael Conforto (RF) hitting 3rd, J.D. Davis (3B) hitting cleanup, Jeff McNeil (2B) hitting 5th, Jonathan Villar (SS) hitting 6th, Patrick Mazeika (C) hitting 7th, former Giant Kevin Pillar (LF) hitting 8th, and Marcus Stroman (P) hitting last. The pitching matchup in this game was between Marcus Stroman who was 8-11 with a 2.79 ERA and Logan Webb who was 6-3 with a 2.96 ERA. This game would likely be a pitchers duel between 2 great pitchers. Logan Webb was looking stay on his tear of amazing starts. For the Mets to win they needed to limit the red hot Logan Webb’s innings, keep the Giants in the ballpark, and find a great start out of Marcus Stroman. For the Giants to win they needed to give Webb a few insurance runs early, hit well off of Marcus Stroman, and find another nice start out of Logan Webb. Would the Giants secure the series win or would the Mets keep themselves in it? To the game!
