Giants Vs. Diamondbacks 5/25/2021

The Diamondbacks entered this game coming off of 2 straight series sweeps and riding an 8 game losing streak. The Giants entered this game after getting swept by the Dodgers in a 3 game series. Both teams were hoping to bounce back in this game with a win. This was the first time the Giants and Diamondbacks would play this season. This 2 game series would happen at Chase Field. The Giants lineup for this game was a Mike Yastrzemski (RF) hitting leadoff, Buster Posey (C) hitting 2nd, Alex Dickerson (LF) hitting 3rd, Brandon Belt (1B) hitting cleanup, Evan Longoria (3B) hitting 5th, Brandon Crawford (SS) hitting 6th, Donovan Solano (2B) hitting 7th, Steven Duggar (CF) hitting 8th, and Kevin Gausman hitting 9th. The Diamondbacks lineup would be Ketel Marte (CF) hitting leadoff, Pavin Smith (1B) hitting 2nd, Eduardo Escobar (3B) hitting 3rd, David Peralta (LF) hitting cleanup, Carson Kelly (C) hitting 5th, Josh Rojas (RF) hitting 6th, Nick Ahmed (SS) hitting 7th, Andrew Young (2B) hitting 8th, and Corbin Martin (P) hitting last. The pitching matchup was Kevin Gausman 4-0 versus Corbin Martin 0-1. For the Diamondbacks to win they needed to get Gausman out early, limit walks, and find a nice start out of Corbin Martin. Leo’s Extra Inning: This was a great win for the Giants led by Evan Longoria going 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 4 RBI, a walk, and a 3 run homer. Brandon Crawford had a nice game as well going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI. Alex Dickerson chipped in as well going 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Kevin Gausman had a nice start for the Giants giving up only 5 hits, 0 runs, and 2 walks in 5 innings. Kevin Gausman also had 9 strikeouts and got the win. The Giants bullpen also had a nice game having 3 pitchers pitch a combined 4 innings and give up only 4 hits and 0 runs. Jarlin García had 4 strikeouts, José Álvarez had none, and Sam Selman had 2 strikeouts. All 3 pitchers got no decisions. The Diamondbacks were led by Nick Ahmed in this game going 2 for 3 with a couple of doubles and a walk. Ketel Marte also had a nice game going 1 for 3 with a walk. Corbin Martin didn’t have his best game on the mound throwing 4 innings and giving up 5 hits, 6 earned runs, 3 walks, and a 3 run homer. Martin also had 2 strikeouts and got the loss. The Diamondbacks bullpen had 2 pitchers pitch 5 innings and give up a combined 8 hits and 2 earned runs in those innings. The 2 pitchers also had a combined 5 strikeouts and 2 no decisions. This win for the Giants was very important because both the Padres and the Dodgers won their games meaning this win left the Giants only a game and a half back of the Padres and a half game back of the Dodgers. Overall, this was a great win for the Giants powered by some early scoring and big hits.
