Warriors Vs. Pistons 1/30/2021

The Pistons came into this game with a record of 5-14 putting them in 14th place in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons and Warriors played earlier this season. In that game the Warriors won 116-106. Curry had 31 points and Wiggins had 27 points. Jerami Grant had 27 and Josh Jackson had 17 for Detroit. For the Pistons to win this game they needed to find great games out of Blake Griffin and Jerami Grant and make sure that they hold Wiggins and Curry. For the Warriors to win this game they needed to have a nice game out of Curry and Wiggins and make sure not to foul. This game was also a reunion of 2 rivals in Draymond Green and Blake Griffin. Lastly, it was 20th game of the season and Filipino heritage night at the Chase Center. To the game!

The Warriors won the tip which led to a Kelly Oubre Jr. 3 for the first points of the game. At 10:56 Blake Griffin made a 3 to tie the game and give the Pistons their first points of the game. At 8:37 Andrew Wiggins made a layup to give the Warriors a 5 point lead. At 7:30 Andrew Wiggins made a 3 to give the Warriors their first double digit lead of the game. Throughout the rest of the quarter the Warriors had a steady 10 point lead most of the time. At the end of the first quarter the score was 29-17. The Warriors played an amazing first quarter giving up only 17 points. The Warriors also shot pretty well with 50% from 2 and 37.5% from 3. The Pistons on the contrary shot 27.3% from 2 and 25% from 3. The Pistons only had one foul in the 1st quarter which was an offensive foul from Blake Griffin. The Pistons leading scorer was Mason Plumlee with only 4 points after the first quarter which also shows how well the Warriors were defending.

For the first points of the second quarter Kelly Oubre Jr. made a nice layup. At 10:52 Damion Lee made a 3 to give the Warriors a 15 point lead. Throughout the heart of the quarter the Warriors lead hovered around 12. At 4:03 Andrew Wiggins made a 3 to give the Warriors a 16 point lead. At 2:38 Stephen Curry made a 3 to give the Warriors their first 20 point lead of the game. To end the half Kelly Oubre Jr. made a dunk making the score 64-45 at halftime. The Warriors played a great first half with amazing defense. Oubre, Curry, and Wiggins had a combined 40 points at halftime which was roughly 90% of the Pistons total points at halftime. The Warriors as a team had no players with a negative +/-. They also had a total of 19 assists compared to the Pistons’ 7. The Warriors shot very well in the first half with 57.8% from the field and 50% from deep. The Pistons on the other hand didn’t shoot so well with 34.1% from 2 and 23.5% from 3. The Warriors had an amazing 1st half. To the third!

To start the 3rd quarter Andrew Wiggins made a layup to give the Warriors a 21 point lead. At 9:59 Mason Plumlee made a dunk for the Pistons first points of the 3rd quarter. At 8:13 Stephen Curry made a 3 to give the Warriors a 27 point lead and their biggest lead of the game to that point. At 6:21 James Wiseman dunked an insane alley oop from Draymond Green and got fouled in the process to give the Warriors a 31 point lead. Throughout the 3rd quarter the Warriors maintained a nice 30 point lead. At 1:08 James Wiseman got a dunk to give the Warriors a 32 point lead which was their biggest of the game to that point. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 94-68 and Stephen Curry was leading the Warriors with 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. The Warriors kept playing well in the 3rd quarter and had 16 more assists and 10 more rebounds than the Pistons. They also kept shooting very well with 54.3% from 2 and 50% from 3. The Pistons kept shooting pretty badly with 33.9% from 2 and 22.2% from 3. The only thing that the Pistons were doing well was that they had only 10 fouls at the end of the 3rd compared to the Warriors’ 19. Throughout the whole third quarter Klay Thompson was talking with the broadcasters and in the last 2:07 did the play by play.

To start the 4th quarter Jordan Poole made a 3 giving the Warriors a 29 point lead. At 8:15 Andrew Wiggins made 1 of 2 free throws for his 20th point of the game. At 6:06 Kevon Looney made a layup to give the Warriors a 35 point lead. Throughout the rest of the game the Warriors hovered around a 30 point lead and played well. The final score was 118-91.

Leo’s Courtside Commentary: The Warriors played an amazing first half with a 19 point lead at halftime. Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists in 3 quarters. Oubre, Curry, and Wiggins combined for a total of 64 points. The Warriors played amazingly with 34 assists compared to the Pistons’ 17. They also had 8 more rebounds than the Pistons and played great defense holding the Pistons to 37.5% from 2 and 25% from 3. The Warriors shot much better than the Pistons with 52.2% from 2 and 47.2% from 3. The only thing that the Warriors didn’t do well was having a total of 23 fouls which was 9 more than the Pistons. Klay Thompson’s commentating in the 3rd quarter was very fun to watch and listen to. Klay Thompson also interviewed Stephen Curry after the game which was also very funny. Eric Paschall played 8:14 and had back spasms after the first half. Overall, this was an amazing game and a very entertaining one too.
