Giants Vs. Rockies (8/12/2021

The Rockies entered this game coming off of 2 straight losses to the Astros where they scored 1 run in both games. The Giants entered this game riding a 4 game win streak and a series sweep over the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers had lost their game earlier in the day so the Giants had an opportunity to get further ahead in the standings. This was the first game of a 4 game series between the Giants and Rockies at Oracle Park in San Francisco. The Giants would attempt to take game 1 with LaMonte Wade Jr. (RF) hitting leadoff, Tommy La Stella (2B) hitting 2nd, Kris Bryant (3B) hitting 3rd, Brandon Belt (1B) hitting cleanup, Brandon Crawford (SS) hitting 5th, Mike Yastrzemski (CF) hitting 6th, Curt Casali (C) hitting 7th, Alex Dickerson (LF) hitting 8th, and last but not least, Logan Webb (P) hitting 9th. The Rockies lineup had Connor Joe (LF) hitting leadoff, Ryan McMahon (3B) hitting 2nd, Trevor Story (SS) hitting 3rd, Charlie Blackmon (RF) hitting cleanup, C.J. Cron (1B) hitting 5th, Sam Hilliard (CF) hitting 6th, Garrett Hampson (2B) hitting 7th, Dom Nuñez (C) hitting 8th, and Germán Márquez (P) hitting last. The pitching matchup in this game was between Logan Webb who entered this game 5-3 with a 3.19 ERA and Germán Márquez who was 10-8 with a 3.42 ERA. Germán Márquez was an all star and Logan Webb wasn’t but Webb had been pitching wonderfully in his last few starts so this would likely be a great pitching matchup. For the Rockies to win they needed to get Logan Webb out early, limit Giants home runs, and find a great start out of Germán Márquez. For the Giants to win they needed to get Germán Márquez out of the game early and find a nice start out of Logan Webb. Would the Giants get their 5th straight win or would the Rockies end the streak?
