Giants Vs. Reds 4/12/2021

The Reds entered this game coming off of a 2-1 series loss to the Diamondbacks. The Giants entered this game coming off of a series sweep of the Rockies and riding a 4 game win streak. The Giants lineup for this game had Austin Slater (RF) hitting leadoff, Donovan Solano (2B) hitting 2nd, Darin Ruf (LF) hitting 3rd, Evan Longoria (3B) hitting cleanup, Wilmer Flores (1B) hitting 5th, Buster Posey (C) hitting 6th, Mauricio Dubón (CF) hitting 7th, Brandon Crawford (SS) hitting 8th, and Aaron Sanchez (P) hitting 9th. The Reds lineup had Jesse Winker (LF) hitting leadoff, Nick Castellanos (RF) hitting 2nd, Joey Votto (1B) hitting 3rd, Eugenio Suárez (SS) hitting cleanup, Mike Moustakas (3B) hitting 5th, Nick Senzel (CF) hitting 6th, Jonathan India (2B) hitting 7th, Tucker Barnhart (C) hitting 8th, and Wade Miley (P) hitting last. This 3 game series would take place at Oracle Park so the Reds would hit first in every game. For the Reds to win they needed to take an early lead, limit Giants homers, and find a nice start out of Wade Miley. For the Giants to win they needed to limit walks, hit well, and find a nice game out of Aaron Sanchez. Would the Giants grow their win streak to 5 or would the Reds bounce back with a win? To the game!

To leadoff the game Jesse Winker grounded out to Brandon Crawford. Then Nick Castellanos grounded out to Aaron Sanchez. To end the inning Joey Votto struck out on a foul tip caught by Buster Posey. To start the bottom of the 1st Austin Slater walked. Then Donovan Solano grounded into a fielder’s choice. To end the inning Darin Ruf grounded into a double play. This was a great inning from both pitchers each getting out every batter they faced. The Giants and Reds were tied 0-0 after the 1st inning.

To leadoff the 2nd inning Eugenio Suárez grounded to Evan Longoria. Then Mike Moustakas lined out to Mauricio Dubón. To end the inning Nick Senzel lined out to Mauricio Dubón. To leadoff the bottom of the 2nd Evan Longoria lined out to Nick Castellanos. Then Wilmer Flores grounded out to Jonathan India. After that Buster Posey singled to left field. To end the inning Mauricio Dubón grounded out to Mike Moustakas. This was another nice inning from both pitchers giving up 0 runs each. The Giants and Reds led 0-0 after the 2nd inning.

To leadoff the 3rd inning Jonathan India grounded out to Aaron Sanchez. Then Tucker Barnhart walked. After that Wade Miley struck out swinging. Jesse Winker was up next and he hit a 2 run homer to center field. To follow that up Nick Castellanos singled. To end the inning Joey Votto grounded out to Donovan Solano. To start the bottom half of the inning Brandon Crawford struck out looking. Then Aaron Sanchez struck out swinging. To end the inning Austin Slater struck out swinging as well. This was a great inning for the Reds where they took an early lead. The Reds led 2-0 after the 3rd inning.

Eugenio Suárez was hit by pitch. Mike Moustakas then flew out to Austin Slater. After that Nick Senzel flew out to Slater as well. To end the inning Jonathan India grounded into a fielder’s choice. To leadoff the Giants half of the inning Donovan Solano singled. Then Darin Ruf hit a soft ground ball picked up by the catcher Tucker Barnhart and thrown to Joey Votto for an out. Solano advanced to 2nd on the play. After that Evan Longoria flew out to Nick Senzel letting Solano tag up and advance to 3rd. To end the inning Wilmer Flores grounded out to Eugenio Suárez. This inning was a missed opportunity for the Giants as they were unable to score with a runner on 3rd. The Reds still led 2-0 after the 4th inning.

To leadoff the 5th inning Tucker Barnhart struck out on a foul tip caught by Buster Posey. Then Wade Miley grounded out to Wilmer Flores. After that Jesse Winker hit an infield single to Donovan Solano. To end the inning Nick Castellanos grounded out to Brandon Crawford. To leadoff the bottom half of the 5th Buster Posey grounded out to Mike Moustakas. Then Mauricio Dubón reached base on a throwing error from Eugenio Suárez. After that Brandon Crawford grounded into a fielder’s choice. Tommy La Stella pinch hit for Aaron Sanchez and grounded out to Jonathan India to end the inning. This was a nice inning from both pitchers. The Reds once again led 2-0 after the 5th inning.

Jarlin García replaced Aaron Sanchez to pitch the 6th inning. To start the 6th inning Joey Votto hit a solo home run into McCovey Cove. To follow that up Eugenio Suárez doubled. Then Mike Moustakas popped out to Evan Longoria. After that Nick Senzel struck out swinging. Next Jonathan India was hit by pitch. To end the inning Tucker Barnhart struck out looking. Kyle Farmer entered the game for Jonathan India at 2nd base. Tejay Antone came into the game for Wade Miley to pitch the 6th inning. To leadoff the bottom of the 6th Austin Slater walked. Then Donovan Solano struck out on a foul tip caught by Tucker Barnhart. After that Alex Dickerson pinch hit for Darin Ruf and grounded into a 4, 6, 3 double play to end the inning. This was a great inning for the Reds where they added onto their lead. The Reds led 3-0 after the 6th inning.

Alex Dickerson remained in the game in left field. To leadoff the 7th inning Kyle Farmer struck out swinging. Then Jesse Winker grounded out to Evan Longoria. To end the inning Nick Castellanos lined out to Mauricio Dubón. To start the bottom half of the inning Evan Longoria flew out to Nick Senzel. Brandon Belt then pinch hit for Wilmer Flores and struck out on a foul tip caught by Tucker Barnhart. To end the inning Buster Posey struck out looking. This was a great inning from both pitchers each with a 1, 2, 3 inning. The Reds still led 3-0 after the 7th inning.

Brandon Belt remained in the game at 1st base. To leadoff the 8th inning Joey Votto lined out to Alex Dickerson. Matt Wisler then entered the game for Jarlin García to pitch the 8th inning. After that Eugenio Suárez struck out swinging. To end the inning Mike Moustakas struck out swinging. LaMonte Wade Jr. pinch hit for Mauricio Dubón and struck out looking. Then Brandon Crawford grounded out to Eugenio Suárez. After that Mike Yastrzemski pinch hit for Matt Wisler and hit a grounder to Joey Votto who tossed the ball to Tejay Antone ending the inning. This was a great inning from both pitchers each with a 1, 2, 3 inning. The Reds once again led 3-0 after the 8th inning.

LaMonte Wade Jr. remained in the game in right field and Austin Slater switched from right field to center field. José Álvarez entered the game for Matt Wisler to pitch the 9th inning. To leadoff the 9th inning Nick Senzel grounded out to Evan Longoria. Then Tejay Antone struck out looking. To end the inning Tucker Barnhart grounded out to Donovan Solano. To leadoff the bottom of the 9th Austin Slater struck out looking. Then Donovan Solano was hit by pitch. After that Alex Dickerson grounded out to Kyle Farmer advancing Solano to 2nd. Lucas Sims then entered the game for Tejay Antone to finish the game. To end the game Evan Longoria struck out swinging. The Reds won 3-0.

Leo’s Extra Inning: This was a disappointing loss for the Giants as they were shutout and gave up 3 runs. The Reds were led by Jesse Winker in this game going 2 for 4 with a run scored, 2 RBIs, and a 2 run homer. Joey Votto played well too going 1 for 4 with a run scored, an RBI, and a solo homer. Wade Miley had a great game for the Reds giving up only 5 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 0 homers in 5 innings. Miley also had 3 strikeouts and got the win. Tejay Antone pitched well too in 3 2/3 giving up only 0 hits, 0 runs, a walk and 0 home runs. Antone also had 5 strikeouts and got the hold. Lucas Sims came into the game to get the final out of the game and did that striking out Evan Longoria and getting the save. The Giants didn’t have their best game offensively but Austin Slater still had a decent game going 0 for 2 with a couple of walks. Aaron Sanchez pitched well in this game despite the loss giving up only 3 hits, 2 earned runs, a walk, and a homer. Sanchez also recorded 3 strikeouts and a loss. The Giants bullpen pitched well in this game with 3 pitchers pitching 4 innings and giving up a combined 2 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, and a homer. The Giants bullpen also had a combined 6 strikeouts and 3 no decisions. Overall, this was a disappointing loss for the Giants where they were shutout.
