Warriors Vs. Grizzlies 3/19/2021

The Grizzlies went into this game after snapping a 3 game losing streak. The Warriors went into this game riding a nice win over the Rockets. This night was special for the Warriors because Chris Mullin’s jersey got retired on March 19th, 2012. This was also a special game because the Warriors would be playing Ja Morant and the Grizzlies for the first time this season. Stephen Curry, James Wiseman, and Eric Paschall were all out for the Warriors in this game which gave them a large disadvantage. Jaren Jackson Jr. was out for the Grizzlies which somewhat evened out the playing field. For the Grizzlies to win this game they needed to defend well, force turnovers, and they needed Ja Morant to have a nice game. For the Warriors to win they needed to find scoring, defend Ja Morant, and limit turnovers. Would the Warriors get the upset win without Stephen Curry or would the Grizzlies coast into an easy win? To the game!

Kevon Looney won the tip and then made a floater to give the Warriors their first points of the game. At 11:08 Jordan Poole made a 3 to give the Warriors a 5 point lead. At 10:56 Ja Morant made a floater to give the Grizzlies their first points of the game. At 7:09 Jonas Valanciunas made a putback layup to give the Grizzlies the lead. Then at the 7 minute mark Kelly Oubre Jr. made a layup to give the Warriors the lead back. At 5:36 Grayson Allen made a 3 to retake the lead for the Grizzlies. At the 5 minute mark Jordan Poole made a 3 to retake the lead for the Warriors. At 4:39 Jonas Valanciunas made a made a layup to tie the game at 18. Then at 4:09 Grayson Allen made a 3 to give the Grizzlies a 3 point lead. At 3:36 Ja Morant made a layup to give the Grizzlies a 5 point lead. At 3:17 Andrew Wiggins made a step back jumper to make it a 3 point game. At 2:04 Kent Bazemore made a layup to give the Warriors the lead. With 38.6 seconds left in the quarter Brad Wanamaker made a pull-up jumper to give the Warriors a 6 point lead. Then Andrew Wiggins made 2 free throws for the final points of the quarter. At the end of the first quarter the Warriors were leading 34-26. Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors in the first quarter with 12 points and Grayson Allen led the Grizzlies with 8 points. The Warriors played well with 5 more assists, 2 more steals, 2 fewer turnovers, and 1 more foul than the Grizzlies in the first quarter. The Warriors and Grizzlies each had 14 rebounds and 1 block in the first quarter. The Warriors shot amazingly in the first quarter with 50% from the field and 50% from downtown. The Grizzlies shot a bit worse with 41.7% from the field and 33.3% from 3. The Warriors went into the second quarter hoping to take a large lead and the Grizzlies went into the second quarter hoping to tie the game or take the lead.

To start the 2nd quarter Brandon Clarke got a 3 point play to give the Grizzlies the first points of the quarter. At 11:20 Brandon Clarke made a layup to make it a 3 point game. At 11:06 Jordan Poole made a couple of free throws to give the Warriors a 5 point lead and their first points of the quarter. At 10:13 Dillon Brooks made 2 free throws to make it a 4 point game. Then at 6:28 Andrew Wiggins made a 3 to give the Warriors a 5 point lead. At 5:20 Damion Lee made a 3 to give the Warriors a 12 point lead. At 3:55 Grayson Allen made a layup to cut the Grizzlies deficit to 10. At 2:44 Andrew Wiggins made a putback dunk to give the Warriors a 12 point lead. At 1:32 Kelly Oubre Jr. made a pullup jumper to give the Warriors a 15 point lead. Then with 35.3 seconds left Jordan Poole made a 3 to give the Warriors a 21 point lead. To end the quarter Ja Morant made a finger roll. At halftime the Warriors were leading 67-48. The Warriors had an amazing 1st half with a nice 26-9 run to give the Warriors a large lead. Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors in the first half with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals. Jordan Poole also played stupendously with 17 points and 2 assists. Draymond Green played well too with 2 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and a block. Grayson Allen led the Grizzlies with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists. Ja Morant played well as well for the Grizzlies with 11 points, 2 rebounds, an assist, and a block. The Warriors ended with 6 more assists, 2 rebounds, 3 more steals, 3 more blocks, 5 fewer turnovers, and 3 fouls than the Grizzlies in the first half. At halftime the Warriors were shooting 50% from the field and 45.8% from behind the arch. The Grizzlies shot decently in the first half with 43.2% from the field and 20% from 3. The Warriors hoped to widen their lead in the 3rd quarter and the Grizzlies hoped to make the game winnable. To the third!

To start the 3rd quarter Kyle Anderson made 3 free throws to give the Grizzlies their first points of the quarter. At 11:14 Ja Morant made a fadeaway jumper to make it a 14 point game. At 10:33 Andrew Wiggins made a layup to give the Warriors their first points of the quarter. At the 9 minute mark Kevon Looney made a baseline jumper to give the Warriors a 20 point lead. Then at 8:47 Grayson Allen made a finger roll to make it an 18 point game. At 8:30 Jordan Poole made a floater to give the Warriors a 20 point lead. At 3:04 Brad Wanamaker got a 3 point play to give the Warriors a 25 point lead. At 2:48 Brandon Clarke made a layup to make it a 23 point game. Then at 1:57 Damion Lee made a layup to give the Warriors a 25 point lead once again. At 1:45 De’Anthony Melton made a floater to make it a 23 point game. At 1:26 De’Anthony Melton made a 3 to make it a 20 point game. At 1:06 Andrew Wiggins made a layup to give the Warriors a 22 point lead. To end the quarter Justice Winslow made a nice 3. At the end of the third quarter the Warriors were leading 91-72. Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors through the first 3 quarters with 31 points and Grayson Allen led the Grizzlies with 14 points. The Warriors ended up with 8 more assists, 3 more steals, 3 more blocks, 7 fewer turnovers, and 2 fewer fouls than the Grizzlies in the first 3 quarters. The Warriors and Grizzlies each had 33 rebounds in the first 3 quarters. The Warriors were shooting well with 50.7% from the field and 38.7% from 3. The Grizzlies were also shooting well with 45% from the field and 23.5% from deep.

To start the 4th quarter Damion Lee made a nice floater that gave the Warriors a 21 point lead. At 11:23 Dillon Brooks made a fadeaway jumper to give the Grizzlies their first points of the quarter and make it a 19 point game. At the 9 minute mark Damion Lee made a layup to give the Warriors a 20 point lead. At 7:13 De’Anthony Melton made a floater to make it an 18 point game. At 5:53 Damion Lee made a 3 to give the Warriors a 21 point lead. At 5:35 Desmond Bane made a 3 to cut the Warrior lead to 18. Then at 4:26 Andrew Wiggins made a 3 of his own to give the Warriors a 21 point lead. At 4:10 Killian Tillie made a 3 to make it an 18 point game once again. At 3:52 Andrew Wiggins made a turnaround jumper to give the Warriors a 20 point lead. At 3:15 Xavier Tillman made a layup to remake it an 18 point game. Then at 2:52 John Konchar made a 3 to give make it a 15 point game. At 2:34 Mychal Mulder made a 3 to make it an 18 point game. At 1:49 Desmond Bane made a layup to make it a 14 point game. At 1:37 Brad Wanamaker made a layup to make it a 16 point game. Desmond Bane made a 3 for the final points of the game. The Warriors won 116-103.

Leo’s Courtside Commentary: This was a great game for the Warriors led by a bright Andrew Wiggins with 40 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Jordan Poole also played well with 25 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. Damion Lee was the last bright spot for the Warriors with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and a block. Ja Morant and Grayson Allen each had 14 points to lead the Grizzlies and Morant had 2 rebounds and 2 assists to go with his points and Allen had 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal to go with his points. Jonas Valanciunas also played well with 10 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Warriors ended up with 7 more assists, 3 fewer rebounds, 3 more steals, 7 fewer turnovers, and 1 fewer foul than the Grizzlies. The Warriors and Grizzlies had 6 blocks each. The Warriors shot well with 48.4% from the field, 36.6% from 3, and 72.2% from the free throw line. The Grizzlies shot well too with 46.4% from the field, 30.8% from 3, and 81% on free throws. The Warriors were able to pull off an impressive win despite Stephen Curry’s absence. Overall, this was an extremely impressive win for the Warriors and a great game for Andrew Wiggins.
