Warriors Vs. Jazz 3/14/2021

The Jazz entered this game coming off of a 15 point win over the Rockets. The Warriors entered this game riding a 4 game losing streak. These 2 teams played earlier in the season and the Jazz won that game by 19 points. This game happened on Stephen Curry and Nico Mannion’s birthday and the Warriors were definitely hoping to get them a win for their birthday. For the Jazz to win they needed to force a bunch of turnovers, defend Stephen Curry well, and make a bunch of 3’s. For the Warriors to win they needed to defend the 3 pointer, limit turnovers, and Stephen Curry would likely need to have a nice game. Would the Warriors be able to give Stephen Curry and Nico Mannion a nice birthday present with a win or would the Jazz ruin the party with a win of their own? To the game!

Rudy Gobert won the jump ball for the Jazz but after multiple failed possessions for each team Andrew Wiggins made a turnaround fadeaway jumper for the first points of the game. At 10:44 Donovan Mitchell made a layup to tie the game for the Jazz. At 9:37 Andrew Wiggins made a dunk to give the Warriors the lead. At the 7 minute mark Royce O’Neale made a 3 to give the Jazz a 2 point lead. Then at 6:42 Stephen Curry got a 4 point to give the Warriors the lead once again. At 5:25 Stephen Curry made a layup to give the Warriors a 6 point lead. At 4:25 Steph made a 3 to give the Warriors an 11 point lead. At 3:21 Joe Ingles made a 3 to make it a 10 point game for the Jazz. Then Derrick Favors made a layup to cut the deficit to 8 points for the Jazz. Andrew Wiggins quickly responded for the Warriors with a layup of his own to make it a 10 point game once again. At 2:02 Kent Bazemore made a 3 to give the Warriors a 13 point lead. To end the quarter Jordan Clarkson made a hook shot that made it an 11 point game. At the end of the first quarter the Warriors were leading 33-22. Stephen Curry led the Warriors in their nice first quarter with 14 points and Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley each had 5 points to lead the Jazz. The Warriors played well in the first quarter and had 1 more assist, 5 more rebounds, 4 more steals, and 2 more fouls than the Jazz. The Warriors and Jazz each had 0 blocks and 4 turnovers in the first quarter. The Warriors shot well in the first quarter with 60.9% from the field and 44.4% from 3. The Jazz shot poorly with 36.8% from the field and 40% from 3 in the first quarter. The Warriors went into the second quarter hoping to take a sizable lead and the Jazz went into the second quarter to play well and take the lead by halftime.

To start the second quarter Mike Conley made a layup that made it a 9 point game. At 10:17 Mike Conley made 2 free throws to make it a 4 point game. At the 10 minute mark Nico Mannion made a floater to give the Warriors their first points of the quarter and give the Warriors a 6 point lead. Jordan Clarkson quickly retaliated though with a floater of his own to make it a 4 point game. Then at the 9 minute mark Jordan Poole made a finger roll to end a 14-2 Jazz run. At 8:34 Jordan Poole made a 3 to give the Warriors a 6 point lead. At 8:13 Mike Conley made a layup to make it a 4 point game. James Wiseman then made a floater to retake a 6 point lead for the Warriors. At 7:48 Rudy Gobert made 1 of 2 free throws to make it a 5 point game for the Jazz. At 7:17 Gobert made a layup to cut the deficit to 3. At 6:39 Jordan Poole made a 3 to give the Warriors a 6 point lead. Then at 3:23 Wiggins made a 3 to give the Warriors a 10 point lead. At 3:15 Conley made 2 free throws to to cut the Warrior lead to 8 points. At 2:38 Draymond Green got a dunk to retake a 10 point lead for the Warriors. At 2:23 Conley made a jumper to make it an 8 point game. Then after a nice defensive stop from the Jazz Conley made a 3 to cut the deficit to 5. At 1:32 Eric Paschall made a pullup jumper to give the Warriors a 7 point lead. With 39.3 seconds left in the half Wiggins completed a 3 point play to give the Warriors a 12 point lead. Draymond Green then slammed home a dunk to end the half well for the Warriors. At halftime the Warriors were leading 67-54. Other than the Jazz starting the quarter with a 14-2 run that had carried over from the first quarter the Warriors played well in the second quarter. Mike Conley led the Jazz in the first half with a strong 18 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists. Jordan Clarkson was also playing well off the bench with 10 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal. Rudy Gobert was also a bright spot for the Jazz in the first half with 9 points, a whopping 13 rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block. Stephen Curry led the Warriors in ten first half with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and steals. Draymond Green played well too with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Andrew Wiggins was the last highlight for the Warriors in the first half with 12 points, 2 rebounds, an assist, and 2 steals. The Warriors ended with 6 more assists, 3 more rebounds, 6 more steals, 3 fewer blocks, 2 fewer turnovers, and 7 more fouls than the Jazz in the first half. The Warriors shot very well in the first half with 57.1% from the field and 52.9% from downtown. The Jazz shot well too with 45% from the field and 40% from deep. The Warriors went into the 3rd quarter hoping to seal the game and the Jazz went into the 3rd quarter hoping to tie the game and make a win in sight. To the third!

To start the 3rd quarter Andrew Wiggins made a step back jumper that gave the Warriors a 15 point lead. At 10:50 Bojan Bogdanović made a step back jumper of his own to give the Jazz their first points of the quarter. At 9:24 Donovan Mitchell made a 3 to make it a 9 point game for the Jazz. At 9:15 Kelly Oubre Jr. made 2 free throws to give the Warriors an 11 point lead. Then at 9:08 Donovan Mitchell made a layup to cut it to a 9 point game. Andrew Wiggins followed that up with a 3 to give the Warriors a 12 point lead. At 8:39 Donovan Mitchell made a couple of free throws to make it a 10 point game. At 8:06 Rudy Gobert slammed home a dunk to make it an 8 point game. At 7:47 Kevon Looney made 2 free throws to give the Warriors a 10 point lead. Then at 7:38 Donovan Mitchell made a 3 to make it a 7 point game. At 6:02 James Wiseman made a layup to give the Warriors a 10 point lead. Derrick Favors then made a layup of his own to make it an 8 point game once again. At 4:03 Oubre Jr. made a layup to give the Warriors an 11 point lead. At 3:53 Donovan Mitchell made 2 free throws to cut the deficit to 9 points. At 2:29 James Wiseman made a layup to give the Warriors a 10 point lead. Then at 1:15 Jordan Clarkson got a dunk to make it a 9 point game and score the final points of the quarter. At the end of the third quarter the Warriors were leading 95-86. Stephen Curry led the Warriors in the first 3 quarters with 22 points and Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz with 18. The Warriors had 8 more assists, 4 fewer rebounds, 3 more steals, 2 fewer blocks, 2 more turnovers, and 11 more fouls than the Jazz in the first 3 quarters. The Warriors shot very well in the first 3 quarters with 55.1% from the field and 48% from behind the arch. The Jazz weren’t as lucky on shooting with 41.8% from the field and 35.5% from 3. The Warriors went into the 4th quarter hoping to smoothly close out the game and get the win. The Jazz entered the 4th quarter hoping to have a nice 4th quarter and secure a comeback win.

To start the 4th quarter Jordan Clarkson made a layup that made it a 7 point game. At 11:08 Mike Conley made a layup to make it a 5 point game. At 10:04 Andrew Wiggins made a dunk to give the Warriors their first points of the quarter and end a 9-0 run from the Jazz. At 9:39 Clarkson made a 3 to make the deficit 2 points for the Jazz. Then at 8:26 Joe Ingles got a technical foul but Jordan Poole missed the technical free throw. At 6:42 Jordan Poole made a dunk to give the Warriors a 5 point lead. At 6:20 Clarkson made a layup to make it a 3 point game for the Jazz. At 6:10 Jordan Poole made 3 free throws to give the Warriors a 6 point lead. At 3:25 Steph made a 3 to bring the Warriors lead into double digits. Then at 2:42 Gobert made a layup to cut the Warrior lead to 8. At 1:17 Wiggins made a 3 to give the Warriors an 11 point lead. Mike Conley quickly responded with a 3 though so it was once again a 3 point game. With 52.7 seconds left in regulation Steph made a floater to give the Warriors a 10 point lead. With 44.8 seconds left in regulation Rudy Gobert got his 28th rebound of the game which gave him the franchise record for most rebounds in a game. Also with 44.8 seconds left in regulation Gobetr made 2 free throws to remake it an 8 point game. With 24.8 seconds left in regulation Steph made 2 free throws to give the Warriors a 10 point lead. Steph then made 2 more free throws to end the game and give the Warriors the win. The Warriors won 131-119.

Leo’s Courtside Commentary: This was a great win for the Warriors who were led by Stephen Curry with 32 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists, and 1 steal. Draymond Green had a triple double of 11 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists, and 4 steals which was a huge boost for the Warriors. Andrew Wiggins also had a nice game with 28 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Rudy Gobert led the Jazz in this game with 24 points, a franchise record 28 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals, and 4 blocks. Donovan Mitchell was a bright spot too with 24 points and 4 assists. Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson played well too with a combined 44 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. The Warriors ended with 9 more assists, 11 fewer rebounds, 6 more steals, 4 fewer blocks, 1 fewer turnover, and 10 more fouls than the Jazz. The Warriors also shot very well in this game with 56.2% from the field, 51.6% from downtown, and 83.3% on free throws. The Jazz shot well too with 44.1% from the field, 34.1% from 3, and 75.9% from the free throw line. Overall, this was a much needed win for the Warriors and a great way to wish Stephen Curry and Nico Mannion a happy birthday.
