Warriors Vs. Spurs 1/20/2021

The Spurs came into this game riding a 2 game win streak and a game where 4 players scored 20 points or more. The Spurs were 8-6 at the start of the game but their biggest win was 21 points in their last game but after that their biggest win was 12. Anyway, the rest of the Spurs wins were all pretty close games. The Warriors on the other hand are coming off of a nice comeback win against the Lakers where 4 players scored 18 or more points. The Warriors were the favorites coming into this game even though they had a worse record than the Spurs at 7-6. To win this game the Warriors needed Curry to have a 25+ point game and needed to find points from other players. For the Spurs to win this game they needed to play good defense and find a few more points all around. The Warriors also broke out the new jerseys in honor of Oakland native Kamala Harris officially becoming Vice President. To the game!

Wearing the new Oakland Forever jersey James Wiseman made 1 of 2 free throws after being fouled on a layup. James Wiseman then got a 3 point play to give the Warriors a 4 point lead. The Warriors rebounding issue from the last game disappeared along with Anthony Davis. One of the main ways the Warriors were able to take an early lead was their shooting splits which were 60% from the field and 100% from 3. The Warriors were also able to play good defense holding the Spurs to 36% from 2 and 20% from 3.

After the first half the Warriors were winning 64-45. One reason for the score was that there were 4 players on the Warriors with 10 or more points compared to the Spurs having only 1 player with 10+ points. Another reason was that the Warriors shot very well with 53.5% from 2 and 50% from 3. They also played great defense holding the Spurs to 32.7% from the field and 14.3% from deep. The Warriors also played well in transition with 12 fast break points. Stephen Curry played extremely well in the first half scoring 20 points with 5 boards and 4 assists. Leo’s Courtside Commentary: The Warriors won the game in the first quarter winning it by 12. They got out to an early lead and never let up. They led the whole game. James Wiseman played extremely well in this game with a career high of 20 points and at least 10 of them were off of lobs. The Warriors also played amazing defense which is showed well by the fact that they shot only 37.2% from 2 and 12.1% from 3. Another storyline was that the Warriors starting lineup had 89 points. The Warriors did well on the boards with 11 more than the Spurs. A big part of that was that Stephen Curry had 11 rebounds. The Warriors also shot much better than the Spurs with 50.5% from the field and 39.5% from behind the line. This was a perfect game for the Warriors and a great way to break out the new jerseys and honor Kamala Harris. To conclude, the Warriors played their best game of the season so far and were really able to play like a team and show great chemistry.
